Welcome to The Pack

Face licks and butt wiggles can't express enough our gratitude that you are the type of human who believes homeless animals deserve a chance at life. Because you know the importance of giving hope and love to your community, we get to find our forever homes.

We all know TRAINING is critical in ensuring a dog gets adopted fast and has a smooth transition into its new home, thus increasing the odds of permanent adoption. Unfortunately, our staff needs more time and resources to train our dogs, especially our long-term residents, than what is available to them.

The Pack is our new sponsorship program focused on training to ensure faster adoptions and smoother transitions in their new homes.

This is a password-protected page for members of The Pack. We will provide monthly updates on our current dogs in training. We will email you when we update this page. Please feel free to email us suggestions, questions, or comments: board@triadspca.org

Meet Libby

Our first featured dog in The Pack is Libby.

Libby was adopted from us as a puppy. Unfortunately, the family didn't treat her as we expected and left her tied up outside during her first year with no interaction, love, or training. Libby never learned how to be a dog. This couple returned her to us. She was in a new home for a trial adoption within a month. Yet again, the humans didn't listen to us (do you see a pattern here?????) and gave Libby the run-of-the-house without structure or introduction. Within the first 72 hours, a repairman came into the home, and Libby bit him. When a dog is scared,  anxious because there are no boundaries, and is still learning to trust, unfortunate events like this can happen.

The family returned Libby.

As you can see, nobody has provided Libby the environment she needs as a shy dog slow to trust. Libby loves the volunteers and staff members she knows and does well at adoption events. Libby just needs love, training, and patience.

Click below to watch our trainer, Beth Alexander (The Dog Connection), talk about how to meet a shy dog and our first training session with Libby.

What is a Shy Dog?

Listen to Beth Alexander, dog trainer and owner of The Dog Connection, talk about what a shy dog is and how to interact with a shy dog to build trust safely.

First Training Session with Libby

Here is our first training session with Libby. In this video, you will hear Beth Alexander, dog trainer extraordinaire (over 30+ years of experience), help Libby's best human friend, Bryan (SPCA volunteer), learn 1 of 4 stages of working with shy dogs.

This video focuses on stage 1.

Update - March 24

Libby went to Summerfield Farms today for National Puppy Day. She sat and watched the adult and kid humans walk and run around. She didn't react. We allowed the big and little humans to stand still, and Libby could approach them if she wanted. Sometimes she was interested and sniffed and licked, and sometimes she backed away. She didn't react in fear. This was a big step for Libby to attend an adoption event as winter was slow, so she hadn't been away from our facility since early fall.

Update on Libby - April 3

Libby went into a home on a two-week trial foster to adopt. Please send good vibes into the universe for Libby and her new (hopefully) humans. We will continue to post updates. The first night was a little tricky getting Libby into the home and her crate, but she was full of love, affection, and playfulness the next day.

Update on Libby - May 1

Libby's adoption is final! Beth visited Libby and her new humans for a follow-up training focused on meet and greets in the home and out in the world. I will post a family picture as soon as I get it!

Libby's training at our shelter helped her transition into a new home with fewer bumps. While every new situation takes adjustment time, Libby's new humans were committed to following our guidance and doing what was best for Libby.

YOU gave Libby another chance at life in her forever home.
